Million billion pieces on the floor
tiny fragments of my soul
blowing out the door
not really sure who I’m hurting for
tried to walk the straight line
but I just can’t go no more
And I refuse to be moved by your reason
‘cause we all know once you’re dead
all time and motion ceases
so we spend our days
ironing out all the creases
of our flawed perceptions
and our misguided thesis
‘Cause none of us knows
what’s beyond this void
ridiculous to pretend
we have any knowledge or choice
of where we go
who we become
if our life’s just a toy
‘cause nobody has a say
in how their soul is employed
Our reality’s illusion
toxic epoxy
it's holding us together
but we’re in our own boxes
trying to reach out and touch
what we don’t understand
but it’s slipping through our fingers
sieve full of sand
Will I remember this life?
any hope any shimmer
fleeting moment of recollection
passing by in an instant.
or is everything obliterated?
never rewound
images which pass by
never make one sound
memory transient
momentarily perpetual
in its presence how full
in its absence I’m petulant
We ourselves are lost
in the meaning quiescent
all I can hope is that my mind
can become omnipresent
but
it is a lot to ask
and it’s a lot to handle
I know I’m only mortal
and my time ain’t ample
but does it really matter?
shit, I’ll gamble
rather live my life
despite my quickly dimming candle
‘cause wise men have said
“you only know what you feel”
be it love, be it hate
I’ll take them all as real
for fear that if I don’t
I know I’ll disappear
into the nothing of the darkness
the vortex of the clear and present
straight line.
